Happy New Year. Am I an idiot or is there something inherently wrong in putting someone who came back to the Tour at the tail end of the season when everyone else was battered and bruised to win a major at the top of women's tennis, and leave out someone who has won 3 of the last 4 majors? Putting this in perspective Mr. Bricker is of the view that Kim Clijsters who is as injury prone as they come because of her style of play, aggressive counterpunching and splits on court (and that is not because she is athletic why she does the splits, it is because she is out of position to get to the ball why she splits) above someone who has been performing well at the majors. Am I missing something here? Any lest anyone think that I am a card carrying Serena fan, why is Safina (no majors) ranked higher than Sveta?

Hi, Karen. I'm not sure what Bricker is basing his ranking on, but I suspect it's his view of the players' talent, not their accomplishments. I certainly don't agree with his ranking of the players, even if we leave accomplishments out of the mix (and I'm someone who really appreciates Kim).

Based on anything, it's hard to see anyone but Serena at the top.

Hi Diane. Sometimes I think that a lot of these writers disrespect women's tennis in the way that they write about it. It is all about the here and now with them. Much as KimC is loved the world over she was not a true representation of what competition was all about. Her nerves were even worst than Dinara's and that is saying something. She took a leave of absence from the Tour and has come back refreshed and rejuvenated - I am very happy for her with this, but I am not happy that people are anointing her and Henin as if they are the WTA Tour. There have been players there who have stuck it out through thick and thin and never went away in disgust the way these 2 did. I recall when Clijsters was leaving that she had nothing but bad things to say about tennis, and as a matter of fact she just up and left in the middle of the season leaving her fans wondering what the heck just happened. Justine did the same thing. Just called a press conference, announced her retirement, gave critical interviews about women's tennis (her I dont watch women's tennis leaves a very bad taste in my mouth) and then all of a sudden because Federer wins the FO, she believes that she can come back and win Wimbledon, just because it is something that she has not done. It is all well and good to have dreams and try to accomplish those dreams, but dont think that because all the pundits were saying that since you left tennis the game is worst off, you think that you are now the saviour of the women's Tour. Women's tennis survived very well without these two and I am waiting to see if when the injuries start (Clijsters) or Henin gets beaten at Wimbledon by some woman that she Justine has never heard of, whether they will both retire once again. The season has just started and already I am fed up with the hype.
