Via the wild card exchange program that the Australian Open has with the tennis federations of the United States, France and Asia, three wild cards for women are given each year for the tournament. This year's recipients are Christina McHale, Kristina Mladenovic and Yuan Meng.
McHale, you will recall, won the Australian Open wild card playoff in Florida last month.
Jelena Dokic, of course, has a wild card, which she obtained by winning the Australian wild card playoff. Four more wild cards--all discretionary (in other words, real wild cards) will be granted next week.
