Timea Bacsinszky, the number 1 seed in Madrid qualifying, was upset in the first round today by Mariana Duque Marino. Duque Marino defeated Bacsinszky 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.
2nd and 3rd qualifying seeds Iveta Benesova and Tathiana Garbin advanced to the next round of qualifying.
