NEWS AND COMMENTARY ON WOMEN'S PROFESSIONAL TENNIS
A few "Hmmm..." moments from a quick glance at the season-ending rankings:1) Sharapova is the number FIVE Russian. Who knew? :)2) There are no South Americans in the Top 50. The Search for Gaby II continues.3) Vaidisova has fallen all the way to #41. Ouch.4) Pavlyuchenkova, after back-to-back $100K wins, is up to #455) Mirza's injuries have nearly knocked her out of the Top 100 (#99)6) Even with all the talk of "parity" on the tour, singles #1 Jankovic leads #2 by 844 points and co-doubles #1's Black & Huber lead #3 by 1820
Pavlyuchnkova's rise has been quiet and impressive. I'm interested in seeing what she does in 2009.Too bad about Mirza because she had made some big improvements to her game at the end of 2007.
