World number 1 Caroline Wozniacki is rumored to be making a racquet change in 2011. Her contract with Babolat expires at the end of this month, and there is speculation that she will switch to Yonex next year. Wozniacki played a recent exhibition match with a Yonex racquet whose brand name was blacked out.
Flavia Pennetta, who plays with a Wilson Blade racquet, will be using the new Wilson Blade 98 Pink BLX, which is described by Wilson as "aggressive yet feminine." Thank goodness.
Yaroslava Shvedova has a new website.
More than half of Martina Navratilova's fundraising goal for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation has been reached. Navratilova plans to raise $134,000 for the foundation as she climbs Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro is over 19,000 feet high, and Navratilova has never climbed higher than 12,000 feet; she said she is not concerned about fitness, but about the lack of air at that height. Should she reach the top as planned, she will be hitting tennis balls. "With the air being that thin, they should go a long way."
Jelena Dokic has received a wild card into the main draw of the Brisbane International.

Yeah, I heard commentators talk about that at the end of the season (probably on Tennis Channel), and the question was raised about whether it was smart for Wozniacki to go through a change as big as that if the decision was made on any level because of the money she was being offered to play with new equipment. It's one of those "enjoying the spoils of being #1" things that she's going to have to survive this offseason and the upcoming year.
Flavia Pennetta... hmmm I wonder if it's only the pink color that makes it "feminine" rather than "masculine," or is there some sort of "it's a women's razor because it has a rounded handle rather than hard-edged one" thing going on? :D
Hey, did you see Serena Williams hawking... err, I mean selling her clothing line on HSN last night? I saw it on the on-screen programming grid and just had to give it fifteen minutes. Of note, she looked like she was still wearing a cast or walking boot on her foot... though it was covered with some sort of sparkly black legging. It looked very feminine, of course... and it wasn't even pink! Imagine that.
Oh dear, I always miss Serena when she's on HSN. I never seem to know ahead of time, and when I do know, it's when she's appearing in the middle of the night or something. My best guess is that the doctors have told her to keep a walking cast on as long as possible, and you know Serena is going to turn it into a fashion statement. A sparkly one.
I believe she airs again tonight (Tuesday). :)
Thanks, Todd. I'm watching this time!
Well, that was my first (and probably only) time to watch HSN--fascinating. Serena's rehab boot was downright festive--I liked it.
