There has been a whole lot of weather, lately, and here in Louisiana, the cold temperatures have been accompanied by heavy rains. Chanda Rubin's Lafayette house caught fire Wednesday night, and the most likely reason is that lightning struck her attic. The alarm triggered a call from Rubin's home security company while the former WTA Tour star was watching television. She got out with some jewelry, photos, important documents, and a few of her trophies (most of her trophies, however, are at her parents' house). Ten minutes later, the roof caught fire.
It took firefighters over an hour to get the fire under control. The roof caved in, and there is both smoke and water damage. The attic and the second floor of the house are gone. Rubin had lived in the house for only two and a half years.

I hope that the women of the WTA come together and try and do something for one of tennis' most gracious players ever.
I was so sad to hear this, and also glad that she got out of there in time.
I still miss seeing her play; it's too bad that all those injuries got the best of her.
I miss Chanda also. I followed her during most of her career. I always admired her because she never forgot where she came from and has helped the children of Louisiana with tennis and other things. I hope, like TennisAce, that the WTA does something and shows its care of their own.
I've always admired Canda Rubin's grace and sportsmanship, and loved watching her play. I'm so. Thankful she wasn't injured. A fire is a horrible thing to go through. Sounds as if the firefighhters who responded did a great job!

Good thing she was unharmed and was able to save a few of her belongings. Fire is a great destroyer. It would be good to have fireproofing to lessen the chances of this happening again.
Your post is awesome. That is a wonderful insight on the subject and I would like to thank you for sharing. I shall be back soon.
