Friday cat blogging--birthday edition

Here is a photo from the archives, with Velma greeting Roxie with a big tongue smack. The sisters are 9 years old this month, though we have no way of knowing the exact date of their birth--they are rescue cats. Happy Birthday to Roxie and Velma!

Happy birthday!

This match between Stosur and Venus has been really high quality!!

Also, do you know why Marion Bartoli gets so much crap about standing near the service line to return second serves, but then people say that Venus is "so intimidating" returning from the service line? I mean is this not the same tactic that is being employed? I mean even people like Lindsay Davenport, who is considered very nice has said that she would peg Bartoli if Marion did that to her... Is it bc Bartoli moves around to return so it's distracting?

I mean the other two instances I remember where commentators have been negative about return position is with Aga vs. Sharapova as USO...and Ivanovic vs. Hantuchova in the AO SF in 08. I remember Ivanovic was chided bc not only was she standing close, she was making squeaky sounds with her sneakers...

But I mean, if returning from teh service line is seen as a positive aggresive tactic by players like Venus (and Seles)...then why are others not seen in the same favorable light?

Don't get it.

I knew Serena was going to regret that loose first game against Kerber...

I think that Bartoli's animation probably does get her into trouble, and the fact that she sometimes stands pretty far in, which is her perfect right. And I also think she gets picked on by commentators and journalists because she is so totally non-conformist, and this is, after all, tennis.

I loved it back when the WTA had that "Looking for a Hero?" campaign, and Marion's official fan site ran "Looking for a Cult Hero?"

Happy Birthday, Velma and Roxie!

Kerber took full advantage of S. Williams'errors. Don't know what William's was expecting. Kerber has great confidence and didn't let the behavior Williams' displayed affect her. I am not saying Williams' did anything wrong just that Kerber stayed focused when so many players get intimidated by Williams' or let distractions in.

I heard Serena and Venus Williams say they like Bartoli because she is a fighter.

Love the joy Venus is showing. It is great to see her smile.

That was such a great match and Venus was so excited to win. It was a really good interview, too.

Yes, the sisters admire a fighter, and Bartoli is one of most relentless.

It is the first time that I see two cats smacks each other standing in front of another.
