Top 2 qualifying seeds out in Hobart

Francesca Schiavone, the number 1 qualifying seed (how strange does that sound?) in Hobart, was defeated in the first round of qualifying yesterday by Urzula Radwanska, 6-3, 7-6.

The number 2 qualifying seed, Marta Domachowska, was also defeated in the first round of qualifying by Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 7-5, 6-3.

Amanmuradova says hometown pressure got to her

It is entirely my fault and I am very angry with myself for not taken chances in the first set tiebreak. At this level these mistakes are unpardonable and it is shame for me to lose in my hometown.

That is what Akgul Amanmuradova had to say about her Tashkent Open first round loss to Urzula Radwanska. Radwanska defeated her, 7-6, 6-3, which, I'm sure, was a great disappointment to the crowd. Amanmuradova sounds like she's being pretty tough on herself, though. Urzula Radwanska isn't exactly an easy first round draw. Hometown pressure is tough, though, and not just for younger players. Amelie Mauresmo seems to almost dread playing in the French Open, for example.

Amanmuradova was seeded 7th. The number 2 seed, Olga Govortsova, made a first-round exit, too. As for Radwanska, she made it through the second round, but in the quarterfinals, she faces Sabine Lisicki, which will not be an easy task.

Robson takes Radwanska out of Shrewsbury

The Shrewsbury battle of the junior Wimbledon champions has ended with a victory for Laura Robson. Robson defeated Urzula Radwanska, 6-3, 6-3.

Julie Coin, however, was defeated by Tzipi Obziler, 6-3, 6-2.

Unseeded Kucova gets to U.S. Open junior girls final

Having upset the defending champion in their quarterfinal match, Kristina Kucova won her semifinal match and will now face Urzula Radwanska in the U.S. Open junior girls final. Radwanska is the sister of Agnieszka Radwanska, who upset defending champion Maria Sharapova in the third round of the Open.
