Wozniacki defends Ponte Vedra title

Top seed Caroline Wozniacki defended her 2009 title in Ponte Vedra Beach today, defeating Olga Govortsova 6-2, 7-5.

Top seeds Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Yan Zi won the doubles championship, defeating Chuang Chia-Jung and Peng Shuai 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

I think so, yes, when you consider that she keeps getting better.

I actually wished that Wozniacki had skipped Ponte Verde. I think she needs to not worry about defending small tournaments and to peak at the bigger premier events and the majors. I remember in 2008 del Potro won 4 small tourneys in a row. In 2009, he did not bother defending them all-if any. Instead being higher in the rankings he concentrated on the summer masters and then won the US Open.
I had hoped Wozniacki would start thinking about this.

Wozniacki plays a lot of tournaments, just like Jankovic used to do. It would probably help her to focus on bigger ones at this point.
