Passing shots

Heather Watson has won her opening round in Stanford. Watson defeated Sloane Stephens 7-6, 4-6, 6-1.

Congratulations to Roger Federer for winning his seventh Wimbledon title and his 17th major!

The ESPN Body Issue is out, and it includes Daniela Hantuchova.

Here's a look at Caroline Wozniacki's Addidas by Stella McCartney look for the U.S. hard court season.

Victoria Azarenka is the new world number 1. 2 through 5 are Agnieszka Radwanska, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, and Samantha Stosur.

This has nothing to do with tennis, but how touching was it to see Na Yeon Choi, as she went to receive her U.S. Open trophy, stop and bow to Se Ri Pak?

Diane, I'm obsessed with finding that greatness quote...but no luck so far... :(

Yani didn't get the career slam :( I know nothing else about women's golf. I even thought se ri park was the famius Korean billiards player...

I wish I could recall the whole quote and when/where she said it. It took place right after the final. Sorry, Eric--I can't even remember who did the interview.

Sadly Na Yeon Choi's win gets completely overlooked on this side of the Atlantic because of a certain tennis tournament.

The fact that women's major tennis tournaments take place at the same time and the same place as the men's is incaluable in terms of the publicity received and the awareness of the players.

The whole LPGA thing in terms of scheduling the majors has baffled me for year. It seems inconceivable to hold women's golf majors when they often do, usually on the same weekend that the four tennis slams (THE biggest events in women's individual sports) conclude.

The timing causes women's golf's biggest news to not even rank as the biggest news in WOMEN's sports on the weekend, let alone sports as a whole.

It puzzles me, too. They do themselves such a disservice. I'm glad I got to watch most of the Open, though.
