Date continues her hot comeback

Kimiko Date-Krumm's latest victim, Shaoshu Liu, received two bagels in the final of the $25k challenger in Tsukuba. Date-Krumm is just mowing them down in Asian challengers.

Date-Krumm continues her campaign

Kimiko Date-Krumm, as I have written before, has no current plans to return to the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, but instead, is playing small tournaments in Japan. She just won another one--a #25K challenger--in which she defeated talented junior Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, 6-1, 6-1.

This and that

Jelena Dokic has won a $25,000 challenger in Darmstadt, Germany, by defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-0. (I will never get used to saying the words "Dokic" and "challenger" in the same sentence.)

Kimiko Date-Krumm has won another $25,000 challenger in Japan. Date-Krumm's comeback plan is to play (and win!) challengers and enjoy herself. As of this time, she has no plans to return to the tour.

According to Ana Ivanovic, Gael Monfils is the best dancer among all pro tennis players.

Martina Navratilova's new website design is a definite improvement--very nice.

Citizen Eco-Drive is no longer airing its Nicole Vaidisova commercial spot.

Those who deal in betting give good odds that Laura Robson will win Wimbledon before she is 20, but 2/3 of those voting in the Eurosport poll say she will not ever win it.

Date Update

Kimiko Date did not win the Kangaroo Cup Ladies Open in Gifu. She was defeated in the final by Tamerine Tunasugarn, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. But getting to the finals was quite an accomplishment for Date, who has been away from tennis for twelve years.

Date says that--at least for now--she does not wish to return to the tour, but will be playing in Japanese tournaments.

Kimiko Date begins comeback by taking out number 1 seed

It's a 50k event, the tournament in Gifu, Japan. Nevertheless, its top seed, Aiko Nakamura, has been knocked out by none other than 37-year-old Kimiko Date Krumm, who has returned to the tour.

Date Krumm retired in 1996 with seven career singles titles. She reached the semifinals of both the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and the quarterfinals of both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open (twice).

Date returning to the tour

I skipped over this news at first because I did not believe it, but Date really is returning to the tour. With all respect to her, it is hard for me to understand why--after twelve years--someone would come back. But best of luck to her--she was a great player.
