Olympic doubles final to be a repeat of Wimbledon final

It took six match points, but Serena and Venus Williams defeated 3rd seeds Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova 7-5, 6-4 in the doubles semifinals at the Olympic Games today. Their opponents in the gold medal match will be 4th seeds Andrea Hlackova and Lucie Hradecka. The Czech team upset top seeds Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond in the semifinals. The Williams sisters defeated Hlavackova and Hradecka in the Wimbledon final last month.

Competing for the mixed doubles final will be Top seeds Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi and the unseeded team of Laura Robson and Andy Murray. Azarenka won the bronze medal in singles, and Murray has advanced to the men's singles final.

While we're focused on the Games, there's another competition that's been going on. Tonight, Magdalina Rybarikova won the Citi Open in Washington, DC. Rybarikova defeated Top seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 6-1 in the final. Pavlyuchenkova suffered from heat illness during her semifinal match against Vania King.

The doubles title was won by Shuko Aoyama and Chang Kai-Chen. They defeated Irina falconi and Chanelle Scheepers 7-5, 6-2.
