Horrible. The grey on grey for the scores is terrible to see. Also on the scores, after years of correcting pundits etc, the WTA goes back to Na Li in stead of Li Na and Shuai Peng instead of Peng Shuai. The tournament schedule is a joke. You just can't look down a list to find something but go through month etc to get there. There was something in seeing the schedule as a whole especially if you don't know what month the tournament is in. I have to say I like the match facts but I don't like the way the scores are written. It was so easy before-go to the score page, see the scores. Now it is a labyrinth. I don't think the WTA liked that I kept writing when they missed a whole day of putting up the scores. The whole thing just feels clumsy and if I had explored more I might have more to say, but it was enough just to make sure I had the right score page.
I can't find what used to be called "Printable Rankings" anymore. Is it there and I'm just missing it? It was super useful in a week like this when you wanted to figure out what the seedings for the AO are going to be a whole 24 hours early. :-)
I hadn't thought about it, but I think "Printable Rankings" may be gone. In fact, a lot of the ranking information is gone. Head-to-Head is even worse than it was before, if that's possible.
The scoreboard is slower to load, much harder to read, and--for me, too--most of the match stats will not come up at all. Approaching them through one access, I get a grayed--out or blued-out page. Going through a different path, I get a "this page is an error" message.
If you want to talk about disaster, look at Ekaterina Makarova's 'Ranking Breakdown' page. Who knew that a 2R loss in Beijing was worth 1000 ranking points?! I'm sure the rest are just as bad, I only looked because I wanted to check how many points she was defending from her AO run (over Zvonereva & Serena) last year. And why do I want to see a players 2008 results on the 'Ranking Breakdown' page? Wow, who thought this was reasonable data?
I don't get the color. Besides the score section-the Pro Tennis Internet Network at the top, the women's section is light grey on even lighter grey. If you go on the men's it is blue on grey. Also the live scores takes quite a while to come up. And then you have to pick live or completed which both take some time to come up. Also if you are watching TennisTv.com and want to check the other live scores while watching a match, the live scoreboard takes up the space of the match you are watching. I have written several e-mails (Contact is at the very, very bottom-again grey on grey-at the bottom of the page)and I am sure they are tired of me.
The head-to-head actually works much better for me now (you have to make sure you always start with a player's given name though).
I've got to defend the WTA over the live scores too. I don't think that's down to them. It's created by a third party and the ATP are stuck with it too...
Hahaha! Yup, agreed the new design is a mess. Although I love a certain features but the old site was definitely better one and was user friendly. It is so tough to navigate around the site. I thought I was the only one who had problems ;)
Just ran across the rankings. They used to have the previous ranking right there. Also just to compare the ATP shows how many spots a person moved-up or down. The new WTA has nothing. You have to go to another date to look but you don't have last week and current week side by side to compare.
I just looked at the rankings on the new page and realised what others were talking about - they no longer have the comparison with last week's ranking! This is crazy! You want to be able to see how much people have gone up or down as a result of last week's event! Also they no longer have the date of birth on the rankings list which is annoying if you are trying to compare younger players or whatever.
One thing I found. If you go to the Press Center page, and go down to the Stats section, you CAN find PDF links to the singles rankings with some of the previous information (previous rank, # of tournaments, pts. to come off, etc.), but who knows if that'll actually be updated on a weekly basis.
Todd, I see what you mean. For me it is the convenience of having last week's rank next to this week's. You have it right there to compare as they used to have. One has always been able to go back on Notes and Netcords to the last week rankings but it is not convenient to go back and forth to see what players and your favorite players are doing.

ReplyDeleteThe head-to-head does not work. It merely shows a match-up that they have picked from the day's events.
ReplyDeleteAs of 7:30 PST, the match details are not bringing up anything. They worked the other night.

ReplyDeleteYes, it's an ITF scoreboard, about which the ATP and WTA should be complaining loudly so that it will be taken down and replaced.
