I wish I could recall the whole quote and when/where she said it. It took place right after the final. Sorry, Eric--I can't even remember who did the interview.

ReplyDeleteThe fact that women's major tennis tournaments take place at the same time and the same place as the men's is incaluable in terms of the publicity received and the awareness of the players.
The whole LPGA thing in terms of scheduling the majors has baffled me for year. It seems inconceivable to hold women's golf majors when they often do, usually on the same weekend that the four tennis slams (THE biggest events in women's individual sports) conclude.
ReplyDeleteThe timing causes women's golf's biggest news to not even rank as the biggest news in WOMEN's sports on the weekend, let alone sports as a whole.
It puzzles me, too. They do themselves such a disservice. I'm glad I got to watch most of the Open, though.
