Alicia Molik, seeded 2nd in the qualifying draw for the Andalucia Tennis Experience in Marbella, was defeated 7-6, 6-0 today by Beatriz Garcia Vidagany in the second round of qualifying.
Because it's so important that we know she's a blonde...
"I don't really understand the whole Twitter thing," says Sam Stosur. "Who cares if you're eating a sandwich or getting a haircut?" Amen, sister.
But also from Stosur: "I don't really read that many books...."
Serena Williams says she has not set a date to return to the tour. She has withdrawn from Marbella.
Casey Dellacqua has apparently withdrawn from the Family Circle Cup. Sabine Lisicki has withdrawn from the MPS Group Championships in Ponte Vedra Beach. She is continuing to rehabilitate her ankle.
And finally, here's something from Miami you didn't see on television:
Diane, she may not get why people talk about why they are eating a sandwich etc., but it would be nice if her fans knew what she liked and did not like so that more people can get to know her. The fact that she does not read many books is a sad indictment. I cannot begin to understand what is wrong with the world today when people say they do not read books. Really annoys me.
ReplyDeleteWell, she does have a website and she blogs occasionally for the tour. I think she stays in touch with fans pretty well. I'm with her on the Twitter thing, though.
ReplyDeleteI just clicked on the link. It is the norm Diane. That is the reason why people like Wozniacki, Oudin, Sharapova and many others get promoted and talked about in the press. They are tall, leggy and blonde. Tennis will never overcome this stereotype. Never. It does a disservice to the fans of the sport which is diverse in its make up. Unfortunately, those that cover the sport see only one colour and one look. As Roger Federer would say - "its a pity"
ReplyDeleteIt's hilarious how they use an adjective blonde to describe a player in a simple report about a match. Thanks for noticing it, Diane!
ReplyDeleteI don't think Oudin falls into that category. She's blonde, yes, but she's short, and she's hardly chasing fashion or striking poses. Oudin is the reason that Oudin is promoted.
ReplyDeleteIt was a real stretch, wasn't it, Marija? Bad writing, on top of everything else.
Diane, what did you mean by "a real stretch"?
ReplyDeleteEnglish is only my second language, and I'm not too sensitive to political correctness, but this blonde Clijsters thing is hilarious.
Oh, I mean--the writer had to really reach far to find a way to use "blonde"!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, the writer must have been inspired. :)
