Patty Schnyder has returned to the courts, playing in the Europe/Africa Zone Group I. She was defeated by Alexandra Dulgheru, 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 in the Switzerland vs. Romania tie. In the Switzerland vs. Portugal tie, she defeated Michelle Larcher De Brito 6-2, 6-4.
Katarina Srebotnik is also participating in Fed Cup play; Slovenia is competing against The Netherlands.
Meanwhile, Victoria Azarenka retired during her third set against Sybille Bammer. Austria defeated Belarus 2-1.
