2007
Family Circle Cup champion Jelena Jankovic has entered the 2010 event in Charleston, South Carolina. Jankovic, who is ranked number 8 in the world, has made five previous appearances at the tournament.
Jankovic won the tournament three years ago in very difficult conditions, right after tornadoes had hit the area. The wind was very high and was constantly changing directions, but Jankovic dealt with it expertly, defeating finalist Dinara Safina.
I just read your post from last year about how things have changed at the FCC...boy did it ever. I noticed some of the same things you mentioned in your post...I also heard from more than one local Charleston resident that they heard that the tournament was leaving the city. They claimed they heard it on a local TV station newscast, though I never heard it while attending the tournament last year or reading it in the local paper. And of course they would leave after I waited ELEVEN years for box seats! :)
ReplyDeleteThere is no reason to believe that the tournament is leaving Charleston. In fact, the 2010 tournament has an exceptionally rich field: Serena, Wozniacki, Jankovic, Sharapova, Azarenka, Zvonareva, and Oudin are early entries.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I don't think they will either...just odd for so many folks to have heard that news story and I couldn't find it in the paper and/or tv newscast. Makes you wonder if it's a Charleston urban legend :)
