Really Sveta, really. It could be that people are falling asleep because of your play. I saw Venus and Serena play a doubles match on MCA and the crowds were way into that match. Perhaps if you brought a little bit of your personality to the court, rather than moping around people would cheer for you. Fans come to tennis matches to be entertained. They dont want to see you arguing with yourself or having that look on your face and wondering why you are out there losing a match that you should at least try and win. Yeah, people will perhaps fall asleep. I love you Sveta but that comment was just all kinds of wrong.
Karen, Sveta meant that she--not the crowd--was falling asleep. She and other players have been complaining about the very late night matches. Sveta said she had to run in the locker room to stay awake.

Hi Diane, that makes it even worse. I understand that she is not happy with the late night matches, but I dont think there is anything that the schedulers can do if matches go over the time that schedulers believe a match will go. If it is that a match is moved to another day then it messes up those players who are also playing singles and doubles and who use their off days to play doubles. What about those players who are playing doubles and whose partner may be on a different side of the draw in singles. I just think that this is an argument that has no basis really as it sounds like Sveta finding an excuse for why she lost a match. All it really comes down to is that Petrova outplayed her in every facet of the game and she had no reply for that. In these days of equal opportunity the men have been carrying the burden of playing late night matches, the least the women can do is do the same.

ReplyDeleteKuznetsova's mind has seemed to be on everything else BESIDES her actual tennis so far this season.
ReplyDeleteYes, Karen and Todd--Sveta seems to be on the down side lately.
