Venus Williams went through a somewhat shaky period during the first half of the second set in her Sony Ericsson Open quarterfinal against Iveta Benesova, but she quickly recovered. Benesova has resurrected her career this season, so--win or lose--it was nice to see her on a big court again. Benesova is one those players who does several things well, but has trouble with steadiness and consistency.
Williams won the match, 6-1, 6-4, and did it with a noteworthy 81 first serve win percentage. She will now play her sister in the semifinals.
