Esther Vergeer wins French Open--again

Wheelchair tennis champion Esther Vergeer, to no one's surprise, has won the French Open, in both singles and doubles. Vergeer has won the tournament in singles seven other times, and has been on a remarkable winning streak---323 games--several years. Vergeer has lost one singles match in the last seven years, and her doubles record is quite impressive, also.

Vergeer's doubles partner for the 2008 French Open was Jiske Griffieon. Vergeer has won the French Open doubles title five other times.

Prior to playing competitive tennis, the 27-year-old Vergeer was a wheelchair basketball player. She has also won the Australian Open and the U.S. Open multiple times in both singles and doubles. Vergeer was the 2008 Laureus Sportswoman with a Disability of the Year, an award she also won in 2002.
