Serena Williams withdraws from U.S. Open

World number 1 Serena Williams has withdrawn from the 2010 U.S. Open. Williams cut her right foot on broken glass this summer and has to have surgery. She has not totally healed, and on the advice of her doctors, is skipping the Open.

Williams referred to the withdrawal as "one of the most devastating moments of my career."

Anon, oh no, no retraction. The thing is that they are all for those who give them access to their daily routines. You know the ones... the ones that issue press releases about their knees, shoulders, back, thighs, and every single part of their body, including their heads.

Dinara, Sharapova, Rafa, Roger, and many others take the time to sit down and provide all kinds of long everlasting discussions about their various injuries and of course the cheering squads (aka commentators) use it at every opportunity to talk about how so and so came back from a serious injury, or how so and so is having dismal results because of whatever injury.

I like that Venus and Serena never ever talk about their injuries indepth, because the minute they do, it all of a sudden becomes the main focus.

I wonder how Dinara and others feel when they are asked at every press conference to give an update on their various body parts. I know I have read some interviews where the same player who was so forthcoming about their injury, now find it a bit tedious to be asking the same questions all the time (see Nadal for an example)

I think she had the part of her foot that FOOT FAULTED last year removed and it hasn't heeled yet!
