Tour sets conditions and fines Dubai

The Sony Ericsson WTA Tour has fined the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships $300,000 for its refusal to allow Shahar Peer into the country to play in the tournament. The tour has also made plans to provide Peer with ranking points and payment, and to compensate her doubles partner, Anna-Lena Groenefeld. There are several new caviats involved in the tour's agreement with Dubai, which you can read about here.

Roddick has decided not to defend his Dubai title next week. I'm usually on the opposite side of Roddick on things but, if nothing else, he deserves to be commended for at least taking a stand on an issue when absolutely ZERO of his fellow players -- male or female -- have taken any sort of legitimate stand on the whole Peer/Dubai/Ram situation... whether or not it would hurt sponsors and/or themselves.

Both Federer and Nadal have been very outspoken about the leadership of the men's tour, but unless I'm mistaken haven't said a peep about this situation (while pulling out of Dubai with what are apparently real injuries). As for Venus and Serena... well, disappointing actions speak louder than words.

I just came in from running an errand and hadn't heard about this. I am so proud of Andy!
