Like it or not...
Jelena Jankovic becomes number 1 in the world soon. If I thought it would give her the confidence to get her act together, I'd actually be in favor of it. After all, the ranking system is not JJ's responsibility; it is what it is.

Actually she becomes #1 on August 11 because that's when the LA points will drop off. But she'll likely drop back down the following, depending on her results in Beijing, because Montreal points come off on August 18.
Actually, she is tired. I saw--in a forum discussion somewhere some months ago--that someone thought I was overly concerned about Jankovic's fatigue. I wasn't. She has failed to take care of her body, and she has paid the price. I'm not excusing her, by the way--not by a long shot--I'm just saying that fatigue and a broken body may be why she will not be able to hold on to a high ranking.

Exactly. It isn't expected to last long. I think she would be better off not playing in China.
