If the various "chases" played any part in her late-career surge of the past four years, even with all the pressure it's put her under, then at least it served some useful purpose. Maybe she would have pulled this run out of the hat anyway, but I'm glad we don't have to take the risk of possibly finding out that it wouldn't have been the case.
