Regardless, I expect her to do very well at Wimbledon.

I hope Venus is there, too. It just isn't Wimbledon without Venus.

Thanks, Karolina.Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07124489754017593105noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-229616072187725718.post-85432759438595006932011-05-09T03:43:49.763-05:002011-05-09T03:43:49.763-05:00Thanks for the insightful piece, Diane. I was just about ready to sing Kvitova's praises for the French, and you reminded me just how different the conditions are!

As you noted, I love the way Kvitova remains so poised during difficult moments of a game. It definitely helped her in the final.

I'm sure I echo TennisAce's sentiments, but I miss Venus' cool demeanour on the court. She always had a steeliness and resolve about her. Would be great to see her in time for Wimby '11.

-KarolinaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-229616072187725718.post-32091993478366968742011-05-08T17:53:20.700-05:002011-05-08T17:53:20.700-05:00Kvitova's impassive look makes me think of Ven...Kvitova's impassive look makes me think of Venus, also--and Chris Evert.Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07124489754017593105noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-229616072187725718.post-39882876706179555262011-05-08T15:48:05.880-05:002011-05-08T15:48:05.880-05:00Diane that is so true on the promotion of the wome...Diane that is so true on the promotion of the women's game. I enjoyed this morning's match and I like both players so am not too fussed about who won. As a fellow tennis buddy of mine who does not have much love for Azarenka, he said he was glad to see her crying after the match because it told him that she really wanted to win. I am not sure I agree with that assertion, but whatever.

Petra reminds me so much of Venus. I remember years ago when I used to watch Venus matches, you had no idea whether she was winning or losing. She had this impassive look on her face. After the match whether she won or lost, she came to the net, looked her opponent in the eye, smiled and shook hands. I have been watching Petra for the longest time and today more than ever she reminded me of Venus.

I do hope that between her and Vika they both make some noise at RG, but as you say the surface and conditions will not help her game, but we shall see.Overhead Spinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13838462340734632101noreply@blogger.com
