A journeywoman, by definition, is usually quite young.Dianehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07124489754017593105noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-229616072187725718.post-78488431951382172012013-05-19T01:46:00.972-05:002013-05-19T01:46:00.972-05:00I'd say that Stosur, Li, Craybas and Schiavone...I'd say that Stosur, Li, Craybas and Schiavone could have been called journeywomen until three of them had their breakthroughs, at which point they are re-classified as true contenders for the top prizes. Halep won the French Juniors in 2009 or so. she has not been around long enough and she has yet to reach a peak. Note that she took a set from Serena at Wimbledon last year, has beaten several top 10 players and gave Sharapova and JJ fits a few times. Her stamina is in question, as is her second serve. She had a better serve in '09 than today. Much better. See the youtube video of the Paris Indoors in 2009 for a look at that motion (very similiar then to Serena's). So, that's what I think. How many tournaments or matches do they have to play? Is it age or how long they have been around before they make that "big break"?sunny ninenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-229616072187725718.post-28727110384655312592013-05-17T22:37:40.907-05:002013-05-17T22:37:40.907-05:00Halep will be 22 in late September, this year. Non-elite players have to do the best they can to recover.

Maybe Simona should follow in the steps of BMS: Take an ice bath, take an Epsom salt bath, sleep for 12 hours, get up, then go back and take a nap. All the "stars" have good physios etc who help them recover from matches and advise them on how to get ready for the next match. Given that I doubt she could afford a top-notch physio, is Halep or others like her at a disadvantage when she has played 2 more matches than everyone (qualifying) and now she has to take care of her body to go up against someone like Serena? I don't know the ins and outs of this part of tennis. I guess this is why is it difficult to really break through sometimes.Sunny ninenoreply@blogger.com
