USA wins Hopman Cup

The USA, facing an unexpected Belgian team in the final, has won the 2011 Hopman Cup. Justine Henin defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 7-6, 6-3 (the first set lasted 69 minutes) in the women's singles rubber, but John Isner won his singles rubber, and the team of Mattek-Sands and Isner won the mixed doubles competition.

This is the sixth time that team USA has won the Hopman Cup.

Well, Mattek-Sands is really coming out for the "national" tournaments. Been grinding it out in Fed Cup and now the Hopman Cup. She played solid the whole time at Perth.
Henin seemed to play well despite the elbow. She won all her singles matches.
It was too bad about Ivanovic. Novak had his Davis Cup and I think Ivanovic was looking forward to winning the Hopman Cup for Serbia.

Mattek-Sands has so many tennis skills, it sometimes puzzles me that she doesn't win more often. And despite losing today, she was said to have played extremely well. It gives her a nice start to the season.
