Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the 2nd qualifying seed in Sydney, was defeated today in the second qualifying round by Anastasia Rodionova, her former countrywoman. Rodionova is now an Australian citizen.
Top qualifying seed Agnes Szavay has advanced to the third round of qualifying, as has 3rd seed Vera Dushevina.
