Richard Boock, bless him, nails it

Thanks to After Atalanta for featuring this stingingly witty--and dead-on accurate--editorial by Richard Boock of the Sunday Star Times in New Zealand. Boock successfully sums up the backward, offensive and totally ineffective trend of using sex to "sell" women's sports.

Hi Diane, I actually saw the news report about the netballers a while ago. (yeah I'm in NZ)

Sport is used to sell sex, not sport is so dead on. I just hope the new head of WTA realises that.

cheers

Well, Dani, she refers to herself as a "chairman," so I wouldn't expect a lot in terms of gender consciousness-raising. And while I appreciate the WTA's primary goal of maintaining financial support--a very important goal--I don't see the organization addressing gender issues. Scott addressed them by waffling--but his language always gave him away. But they DO love to talk about "equality"...
