Bartoli wins in Monterrey

Taking advantage of Li Na's problems with her second serve, 2nd seed Marion Bartoli won the Monterrey Open in straight sets today. Breaking Li six times, Bartoli took the match, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles, the victorious team was that of number 4 seeds Nathalie Dechy and Mara Santangelo, who defeated Iveta Benesova and Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3, 6-4.

I didnt have the chance to see the final, i was very busy walking in a flea market looking for a childhood toy never to be found again. Still, the semis were clear enough for this result to be expected. Bartoli was playing quite consistent but Li had her share of trouble.

Im just glad latinamerican ESPN got to broadcast it, lately its been more about the WTA than APT, which is a nice surprise.

And guess who was supposed to play Monterrey? The tournament director said, in a live interview, that Sharapova write to him months ago to confirm her participation. That would have been awesome!!! Hopefully next year.

Oh, that really is a tidbit of news, Ronoso. It would have been a great Indian Wells warmup for her, for sure.

And good for Marion, that she sustained such a high level of play throughout the tournament. (I understand that one broadcaster announced she had just won her 4th ATP tournament.)
