Vesnina posts her first top 10 win

Yesterday, I wrote about Elena Vesnina's significant improvement, which began--seemingly out of nowhere--this season. Today in Dubai, she had a breakthrough, getting the first top 10 win in her career. Vesnina defeated countrywoman and 7th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 in the second round.

First Li, now Kuznetsova. In the next round, Vesnina will face either Tsvetana Pironkova or Dominika Cibulkova.

Kuznetsova just fell apart in that final set, which was bizarre really, considering that she'd won the second set.

morning, Diane,
just heard a commentator say what a difference someone had made - he mentioned a name, which I presumed is a new coach?

(half asleep here and one fingered typing with cat on lap and second cat beside me, now gently burping and snoozing....I was suitably chastened for being late with their breakfast - nothing says "shame on you!" like a look from a hungry cat......)

I thought there might be a new coach. She is a different player this season.
