Szavay continues her decline

For reasons unknown to me, Agnes Szavay had to qualify to play in Acapulco (as the top qualifying seed), and she was defeated in the final round of qualifying, this time by countrywoman Greta Arn, who is ranked number 160 in the world. The last time I was able to look at the scoreboard, Szavay was up 5-1 in the first set. She took that set, 6-1, but Arn took the next two--1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Something is wrong with Szavay; I suspect it is something mental. I'm just taking an educated guess, of course, but perhaps this is one of those occasions when it would be best for her to play some ITF tournaments until her confidence returns.

Strange what happended there... maybe something similar to that tournament Schiavone had to qualify to?

Just to correct a little something, Szavay didnt even make it to the main draw, she lost to Arn on the last qualifying round. And this will be no surprise to anyone but at a point, the score was 6-1 4-0 for Szavay, then a meltdown must occur...

Greetings as always from 4-5 hrs from Acapulco :P

Ah, I must have read that wrong. I saw "final" and read "first." I was working with a very small screen. I'll make the correction in the post. Thanks for pointing it out, Ronoso.

As RoƱoso said, it could have been something strange ala with Schiavone. Or maybe she entered extremely late (after losing early yet again in Dubai, then desperately looking for somewhere to play... so desperate that she'd even agree to a slot in the qualifying draw).

Even though Szavay's ranking has yet to fall too far as of yet (the bottom has to drop out soon, though), I wholeheartedly agree with your get-thee-to-a-challenger idea. When Dokic was first experiencing her prolonged downturn in results, it too her FAR too long to finally play in challenger events.

Sometimes pride has to be swallowed in order to right the ship... and this one's taking on water quite fast.

The player who did it right was Pennetta. After the injury, she was suddenly in fear whenever she stepped onto the court. She got herself into challengers fast, and it really paid off for her.

poor agnes :( I remember her good form in 2007 season (us open and beijing, escpecialy!) and I miss it. she has beautiful playing style and even more beautiful backhand. i cheer 4 her to come back, she has a big potential and talent.

Oh, my. Szavay still got into the draw as a lucky loser. Now she gets to lose two times at the same tournament.

u, I agree--Agnes has a truly beautiful backhand. I hope she crawls out of this.

She beat the 15-year-old!
